I am going to Bouchon tomorrow for a breakfast. It is in New York's Columbus Circle. The first time I experienced the amazing bakery was in the one in St Helena, right outside of Napa.  They are also opening one in Beverly Hills sometime in 2009 and is going to be North Canon Drive between Beverly and Wilshire Blvd.  The chef is coming from Per Se...yummmm. . I highly suggest the macarons.

1. Coco Avant Chanel: Anne Fontaine's movie capturing Chanel's life before she hit it big as a fashion designer.


2. A Single Man: Tom Ford's film based on Christpher Isherwood's novel.  It is supposdely going to be released in 2010 and is already being considered for an oscar nomination.

Rachel Zoe for QVC

Most recently I was honored and appointed the very first intern for Rachel Zoe in NYC. Yippi!! Hip Hip Hooray! Right in the nic of time for New York fashion week.  So coincidentally, I get invited to Zoe's fashion show for QVC. End up going with and sitting at the show with my lovely friend/boss who also happens to be my former boss at Who What Wear. Blah blah blah long story short... read this article we all came across...

And who were these attendees? Next to me there were two young girls, one clad in head to toe Hermès. What the—? "We're here for Zoe. That's the only reason we're here," said one.

"She's glamour," said the other.

It turned out they were both Rachel Zoe interns.

But isn't Rachel Zoe, like, over, now that she is on QVC? "She's just pumping up the volume now," said the Hermès one, whose parents are rich, she admitted. Where does she herself shop? "Chanel, Hermès, Barneys. QVC for Rachel Zoe!"

Really? She was going to buy this? "The stuff is like really, really good quality," said the second intern.

Shortly after, came the moment, oh the moment. Because hopes were high for Zoe!

"We have very reasonable price points for what's being sold in there," said Jamie Falkowski. "That fur vest is so close to what Rachel's seen in everywhere, and it's $79 and it comes in three different colors. It sold out before Rachel even got on!"

Here are some of the things Rachel Zoe said for the cameras, while the salon tent's audience stared at the ceiling, now nearly three hours into the show.

* "This is a transitional piece." She was referring to her ultrasuede long sleeve wrap ($116.60). Sorry, gonesies! Sold out!

* "It's not cumbersome." She referred, of course, to her Eternity scarf ($31), which is a scarf that never stops! There is no end to this scarf. That is because it is not a scarf, per se, but a circular piece of fabric that you can wrap once, twice, or even thrice (for that bunchy look!) about your neck. And also it is transitional as well because you know how cold you get when there is air conditioning in summer, Zoe helpfully pointed out.

* "I'm very into making dressy looks casual, and casual looks dressy." This goes without saying.

* "You don't have to be famous to have these pieces."

Once the fur vests sold out, that was the end of Zoe and the audience burst into applause, except for her interns, who were too busy texting on their shattered iPhones and flirting with an Ed Westwick lookalike.

WHY: We are very sorry to say that our great friend Tara Subkoff has been diagnosed with a form of brain tumor known as an acoustic neuroma. While benign, it will be fatal to her in approximately two years if not operated on. Recuperation from the necessary operation may take as long as a year. During this time it will not be possible for her to work. We are writing in the hope that all of you can help.
The operation should take place in August if Tara is to avoid deterioration in her mobility and hearing, possible facial palsy and other symptoms. The tumor has exceeded three centimeters, which places extreme urgency on removal and rules out radiation and less invasive methods of treatment. There are eleven specialists involved, due to the extremely delicate area around the tumor. All proceeds from the benefit would go towards covering the remainder of the costs of the operation, and possibly to the care that will be needed afterwards.
Jeffery Deitch has kindly offered his Grand Street space for a benefit on July 15th. We want to put together a really terrific array of artworks for a silent auction. Tara is donating her collection of 200 pieces of Imitation of Christ couture, also to be in the auction.

Revamping

Can you believe that Nina Ricci held a sale in Paris, France on Friday to delete trace of Olivier!!!!!!!!!! They were selling ready-to-wear and runway peices still left over from the collections for only 40 euros. Thats $50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Madness!!!!!!!!!!! They are really cleaning up while Peter Copping is designing his first collection for the line. We will have to see at the end of June what Copping has to offer.

Richard Avedon is having an exhibition, “Avedon Fashion 1944-2000,” opening May 15 at the International Center of Photography, presents this disowned work as a seminal body of fashion photography. This exhibition will be the most comprehensive exploration to date of Avedon's photography. Work from his time at Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, and The New Yorker is only some of what is going to be featured.

Poor Jack.... This is his nose right after he had to get surgery. Insane!! Brooke Sheilds has spoken out only to her friends saying that Jack "josled" her. Ummmmm thats pretty graphic considering I imagined Theyskens to be the most delicate man in fashion. Anyway, Anna Wintour is making a huge effort to make him the new creative director of Halston. If he did take on the role, he would have to move to New York but nothing has be finalized just yet.

In France all the restaurants and cafes will drop their prices starting July 1, 2009. This is because the VAT (Value Added Tax) is dropping from 19,6 % to 5,5%. Good ol' President Sarkozy passed this April 28, 2009. This will cost the French government 2.5 billion euros. On the plus side, 40,000 people will get jobs. Whatever, after a couple months prices will go back to normal if you want the brutal truth.

If you want good suggestions for cafe's while in Paris I highly suggest Cafe De Flore. Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Gertrude Stein, the existentialists Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and Alber Camus often wrote, had coffee or drinks at Cafe De Flore. It is at the corner of the Boulevard Saint-Germain and the Rue St. Benoit.

1. Anna Wintour chose not to have a place this year for Azzedine Aliaia. Weird considering the theme was MODELS and Alaia was infamously so close with the legendary models: Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, and Stephanie Seymour. Azzedine's feelings were so hurt that he wasn't invited to attend the gala and that his designs are not included in the exhibition last week. He requested the models not to wear the dresses he had made. He went on to tell press that Wintour has way too much power in the Gala and made a phone call to Marc Jacobs to vent.

“He’s very upset. Azzedine is a great friend of mine. I admire him so much… He’s had a huge influence on the way women are shaped, the way women look. I do think he’s one of the greatest influences. I’m really sad that he’s not part of this exhibition.” -Marc Jacobs

Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek are having another wedding ceremony. It is taking place this Saturday in Venice, Italy at the Palazzo Grassi, where the two first met. It also happens to be owned by Mr. Pinault along with 16.9 billion dollars.

Peter Copping is officially the new creative director of Nina Ricci. I feel like I already went over this but that might have just been my overly confident prediction. Hopefully they will give him some time to get situated in the company. Nina Ricci has had three designers in the past three years. Lars Nilsson, Olivier Theyskens and now Copping. We'll have to wait till June 2009 for the resort collection. The first runway show will be in fall 2010, so sit tight.

Beatrice Inn: SHUT DOWN

New York City's Beatrice Inn has been closed again since 2006. The police came by at 2am and cleared everyone out. Many reasons include, over crowding, drugs, and the fact that the owners, Matt Abramcyk and Paul Sevigny, owed the city $23,000 for construction violations. Supposedly there is going to be a "Free Beatrice" party going on some time this week. So for those of you who "like to sit in the dark basement and feel cool and fucked up" be my guest.

Coco Avant Chanel

The new Chanel movie, Coco Avant Chanel starring Audrey Tautou, has been released! The world premeire was at the Champs-Elysees theater on April 6, 2009. It is open to the rest of France on April 22! Unfortunately no dates have been set for the states. The entire film is based on the book, L'irreguliere by Edmonde Charles-Roux. It is filmed in Paris and in Normandy. A few original Chanel dresses are going to be featured throughout the movie. Catherine Leterrier is the designer to the rest of the costumes, with Karl Lagerfeld overseeing and approving everything.

For Barbie's 50th anniversary, the doll is having an exhibition at Galeries Lafayette right now. The Barbie is featured in outfits designed by Calvin Klein, Jean Paul Gaultier, Karl Lagerfeld, Danielle Scutt, and Alexander Wang. There are 50 designers in total! Check out Maison Martin Margiela’s:

NATO FASHION ALERT

This is Michelle Obama at a dinner in Baden-Baden with my favorite couple, the Sarkozy's. She is wearing an Alaia, a totally important designer. Alaia sold the dress to Ikram, the Chicago store that has been supplying Mrs. Obama with most of her clothes and accessories.

New vintage for YSL

Yves Saint Laurent is doing a vintage capsule collection that is going to be sold at Barneys New York next month. In other words fabric recycled from the YSL archives are going to be used to rebuild a beautiful collection.

Theyskens replacement?

Nina Ricci currently has no design creative director. Olivier left along with PR director, Kate Etter, and and the only person whose name has come up in terms of replacing his position is British designer, Peter Copping. Today Mario Grauso verified that he has not invited anyone for the Met and that Ricci is going to announce a new designer within the next few weeks. I am 99.99999999% sure that it will be Peter Copping.



In terms of Olivier and his amazing shoes that he designed for Fall 2009, they ARE NOT GOING INTO PRODUCTION!!!!!!!!! That is simply because Olivier is a genius and no one can handle it.

Jimmy Choo is collaborating with Hunter Boots. It will be available in June 2009 for $395. The boots from the two amazing British labels feature an embossed crocodile print, leopard print lining, and gold-metal hardware.

Inside Scoop: Costume Institute Gala

Calvin Klein, Nina Ricci, Carolina Herrera, and Tod's have confirmed that they will be sponsoring tables at the Gala. Due to the economic situation Burberry, Roberto Cavalli, Versace, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren and Alberta Ferretti have all SAID NOOO to buying tables this year. So instad of dropping a nice $75,000 to $250,000 on a table they will buy a seat for $5,000 to $10,000 each.

The theme this year? "The Model as Muse." Marc Jacobs is honorary chair. Kate Moss, Anna Wintour, and Justin Timberlake as co-chairs.

Models being the main focus and getting respect in fashion this year could also be another recession tactic. Less focus on celebrities is always budget friendly.

Monocle store opening

British culture journal Monocle's retail store in London is opening another store in Los Angeles, more specifically 255 26th Street in Brentwood. The store is going to open April 6, 2009 and will carry great collaborations like Comme des Garçons' Hinoki candles.

Trovata has a pop up store in Beverly Hills with Apartment Number 9. It just opened yesterday and will be open for about two more months! It carries the Spring/Summer 2009 collection and is more focused on menswear then women's.
